Just reached home about 45 mins ago. Time is 1.15 am. And tomorrow I gotta wake up early. But though I am feeling very sick now, my heart is feeling light, after witnessing some goodness in Singaporeans.
Was waiting at the bus stop opposite Bras Basah complex after supper (or dinner) and after wsdp. Saw this tiny old lady sitting on the kerb of the busstop, her legs and stuffs extending into the road. It was dark and she is in a very dangerous position to get hit by the bus stopping at the stop. However she refused to budge at all from concern passer-by. However everytime a cab passes she will move her hands up as if to wave for the cab.
Another small group of people was trying to help her hail a cab but no taxi, NO TAXI will stop at that time: ~11.15pm. Me and Isis was watching from the side, then I decided to call a cab. But nah, no one on the line. Then Isis tried to called the police. But then finally a cab stopped, SHA 4578Z. He allowed the lady to get on but he will only mumble punggol-sengkang. Anyone ask her anything that will be her only response. The other other thing she will say occasionally is that she only need to mention this and others will know where she stays...
No choice, the driver called the police, but waited for damn long. Till most of the crowd have left us, except me and two other ladies. I offer to go to the station with the driver, since I was the only longest-staying eye-witness around. And we went. The police said they will keep a look out for lost person report, as well as to take her fingerprint to get her identity. Hopefully her family can pick her back soon. One thing I felt very guilty was I couldn't speak hokkien and couldn't pacify her as much as I could. Cos I could feel the disappoint in her when we brought her to the police station. Her hand was holding $10 bill. She thought she could go home straight away. Anyway when I helped her down the taxi, I realised her leg was injured and couldn't walk properly...
After that the driver sent me home but he refused to take my money. Goodness me, he had the 'Tampines' tag on his taxi before he stopped for us, he bear with all the trouble and the time that he could possible earn in that hour or so, and now he refused to charge me. I had to insist then he only took $10 bill.
Any suggestion to send a compliment to him? SHA 4578Z. He lives in sengkang area. Haha... From my conversation with him...
